Located four hours’ journey from Puerto Maldonado (by bus and motorized canoe), the wooden lodge blends effortlessly with the surroundings, with high ceilings and open spaces – inviting the sounds and sights of the rainforest in.

The main lodge building houses the communal areas including a large bar / lounge area, dining space and mezzanine lounge where evening lectures are held. Most of your time will be spent out exploring the jungle on excursions with your expert naturalist guide. Refugio Amazonas offers a range of activities including walks through the rainforest, visits to clay licks to see macaws, climbing the nearby canopy tower, night walks in search of creepy crawlies etc. There are also lots of opportunities to interact with resident scientists and take part in their research projects, including several projects aimed at children.

The 32 rooms offer comfortable accommodation, with large beds covered by mosquito nets, hammocks, and en-suite bathrooms with eco-friendly toiletries and warm water showers. Suites add extra luxury with lounge space to relax in. Electricity is turned on three times a day – giving you sufficient time to charge your devices and provide light in the evenings.
